A PUB in the heart of Chard is set to get a new lease of life after two new owners took over earlier this month.

Jack and Jay Berryman-Talbot relaunched The Choughs hotel in High Street on November 4.

Together with manger Kay Redmond, they are hoping to bring the punters flocking to prominent town centre pub.

This included reopening the kitchen at the weekend.

Jack said: “My partner Jay and I have moved down here from Wiltshire where we had a pub and hotel.

“I’m from Weston-super-Mare originally and we wanted to move back to Somerset.

“Once we saw this pub available with star pubs and bars we really wanted it.”

The kitchen relaunch started with a British classic, the Sunday roast.

Food will be served from Tuesday and Sunday every week.

Jack added: “It is full of character, and we were told has a bad name and so we aim to come in and turn this place around.”

The hotel / pub will serve lunch from noon until 3pm, and evening meals from 6pm to 9pm.

“We are also hosting karaoke nights from 8.30pm till 2.00am every Saturday night,” said Jack.

“We hope to entice people back to this beautiful pub again and bring it back to life hosting different events for everyone to enjoy.

“We also hope to see some more families come and enjoy our facilities as we have a lovely kids play area in our beer garden.”

Jack, 22, and Jay, 29, took over The Choughs on November 4 and have been running pubs for the past four years.

Jack added: “Our mantra is to love your local and eat independent.

“If people don’t use their local pubs, sadly they dissolve, and we don’t want to lose this gem of a pub.

“Also we will be hosting coffee, cake and breakfast mornings for the people of chard to pop in for a nice cuppa and a good old fashion natter.”
