AN Ilminster man who repeatedly contacted his ex via text and social media and then went to her home address could face prison after breaching a restraining order.

Jamie Lee Garrett was given a suspended sentence order by a crown court judge in December last year after being convicted of offences against his former partner.

However the defendant was arrested by police and appeared before Somerset Magistrates charged with harassing her and breaching a restraining order made ordering him not to contact her.

Garrett, 28, of Swanmead Drive, pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order imposed at Taunton Crown Court on December 4, 2018.

Between September 12 and 17 at Yeovil he contacted the complainant via Badoo dating website, Snapchat, text and Facebook Messenger and attended her home address which he was prohibited from doing by the order.

He also admitted pursuing a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of his ex on September 6 by repeatedly contacting her via Facebook Messenger.

Prosecutor Thomas Faulkner said that the defendant was now in breach of a suspended prison sentence imposed at Taunton Crown Court last year and the case would now have to be dealt with by a judge.

Defending solicitor Rupert Russell said that Garrett had been through a difficult break up with his partner and that was why the restraining order was imposed.

“Since then he has moved on and now has a job but also suffers from a number of mental health issues,” he added.

The magistrates ordered the defendant to be sent to Taunton Crown Court to be sentenced on December 13 and requested the Probation Service to prepare a pre-sentence report in the interim.

Until then they gave Garret bail with conditions not to contact the complainant directly or indirectly, not to go to Stiby Road in Yeovil and too live and sleep at his home address in Ilminster.
