THE story of the Christmas nativity is set to be brought to life in venues across Chard.

After last year’s inaugural Follow That Star event, the walking nativity is returning to Chard town centre.

The performance will take place on Sunday, December 15.

It is due to start outside the Guildhall from 2.30pm.

There, attendees can join in carol singing, led by Chard Concert Brass.

The public can then follow the characters as they head to the library, where they will meet the shepherds.

From there, the nativity will move to the Baptist’s church to meet the three kings, or wise men.

Next, the production is heading to the Bethlehem Inn - a role filled by Chard’s Phoenix Hotel - to see if there is any room.

Roman soldiers will march around town to a trumpet fanfare, donkeys will join from Weymouth beach, and the whole story will be told by a narrator.

Organisers are also invited people to bring gifts for the baby Jesus, which will then be donated to the Lord’s Larder foodbank.

When the performance is finished, the crew will open the doors of the Guildhall for mince pies, served by the Lions of Ilminster.

There will also by music by the Farey family, and a chance to shop at the craft and gift stalls in the Guildhall.

The production will be presented by Chard Churches Together.
