A SIX-year-old girl who survived a brain tumour has taken the charts by storm and made it to the top of the Amazon Music Chart

Lyra Cole, from Highbridge, made the recording of the Christmas classic 'When A Child is Born' to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, which helped her when she had emergency surgery as a baby.

Her YouTube music video has been viewed more than 100,000 times since its release on December 2 and her charity single shot straight to the top of the Amazon download charts, ahead of Stormzy and The X Factor Celebrities, within days of its release.

Now the talented schoolgirl has her eyes on the big prize and is tipped to be number one this Christmas.

Speaking about the Christmas single, Dan Cole, Lyra's dad, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support for Lyra’s single.

"It’s exceeded all of our expectations and has just been incredible.

"Mostly importantly, we are raising much-needed funds for Brain Tumour Research and helping to raise awareness of this terrible disease.

“She’s proved that she is such a little superstar. We have had so many lovely comments from strangers and good wishes from people all over the world. I just hope we can keep going for a few days and make it to number one. Wouldn’t that be great?”

Lyra was just five months old when she underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumour after being initially misdiagnosed with a virus.

The tumour, which was the size of an orange, took 11 hours to remove and Lyra underwent a second procedure to restore her sight a year later.

Now, with the help of her aunt Jessie Hawkes, who is the creative director of media company The Digital Ladder, Lyra has recorded the single and performs in the music video which accompanies it.

Money from the sale of the single will go to Brain Tumour Research and the family has also set up a Facebook fundraiser for the charity.

Since the single was released a week ago scores of celebrities have shown their support for Lyra including boxing legends Joe Calzaghe and Frank Bruno who watched Lyra perform her first gig in Somerset on Friday (December 6).

And Sir Cliff Richard, who has also recorded a cover of the song, sent a video message to Lyra congratulating her on her single.

On Monday (December 9) Lyra, Dan and her aunt, Jessie Hawkins, appeared on the sofa on ITV's This Morning and Lyra's campaign is gaining traction on social media with celebrities including Denise van Outen, Kady McDermott and Rachel Riley tweeting #Lyra4XmasNo1 to support her efforts.

Lyra said: “I’m really hoping that the song keeps climbing the Christmas charts. And I would really like to be number one. That would be a dream come true.”
