FIREFIGHTERS helped to free an elderly man 'partially impaled' on a brass ornament after a fall.
A crew from Chard was called to Crewkerne Road in the town at around 6.25pm last night (January 20).
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A fire appliance from Chard was mobilised earlier to assist ambulance paramedics on scene with an elderly gentleman who had fallen and got partially impaled on a brass ornament.
"Fire personnel worked alongside paramedics, firstly formulating a plan of action and then using a hacksaw to cut through the ornament and release the gentleman so he could then be conveyed to hospital via road ambulance."
The incident was under control at 7pm, they added, with the incident left with the ambulance service.
