A WOMAN pedestrian has suffered "life threatening" injuries after being hit by a car.
The woman, who is in her 60s, suffered serious head injuries in the incident and is in the Royal United Hospital, in Bath.
Police say she is in "a stable condition".
Officers are appealing for witnesses to the collision involving a silver BMW at about 6.45pm yesterday (Monday) at the junction of Chamberlain Street and Portway, in Wells.
The road was closed for almost five hours after the incident as collision investigators examined the scene.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "We’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision who may have information to help our enquiries.
"We would particularly like to hear from motorists with dashcam footage or anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have mobile phone footage of the incident."
