FIREFIGHTERS from across Somerset battled for more than three hours to put out a fire at a property near Frome.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to Hatchet Hill in Babington at 11.49pm on Thursday (February 6) following reports of a fire.
Two fire engines from Frome, one from Radstock, one from Paulton and a fire engine and the turntable ladder from Bath were sent to the scene.
When crews arrived the officer in charge confirmed that smoke was coming between the ground floor and the basement of the property.
Firefighters got to work to investigate the cause of the smoke by removing parts of the flooring and ceiling to locate the fire.
The crews used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, small tools, one main jet, one covering jet and one thermal imaging camera.
At 1.41am crews were making good progress and exposed a timber joist smouldering causing the smoke logging within the property.
The crews worked to dampen down and monitor the joist and the fire was out by 3am.
Firefighters handed the care of the property back over to the owners and all crews left the scene.
