CHARD Football Club is set to get a new home after a planning application for a stadium and 295 homes was approved.

The planning application for 295 on land east of Mount Hindrance went before South Somerset District Council's regulation committee today (February 18) after it was rejected by the area west planning committee at the end of last year.

The area west committee voted to reject the plans, despite advice from planning officers recommending approval.

But the plans, submitted by Mactaggart and Mickel, are back on track after the elected members voted in favour with eight votes to five against.

The club has been searching for a new home for the last three decades, but the search became more urgent in 2016 when the Football Association threatened to kick them out of the league because of the 12 foot slope in their current pitch.
