A HORSE was rescued by firefighters after it became stuck in a water filled pit near Yeovil.
Firefighters were called to Mudford at 5.41pm today (February 21) to reports of a horse stuck in a water filled ditch.
A crew from Yeovil and a specialist animal rescue team from Bridgwater went to the scene.
When crews arrived they discovered that the horse was stuck in a 5ft deep water filled pit.
Crews used specialist animal rescue equipment and were assisted by a local farmer with farm machinery to lift the horse unharmed from the pit and onto dry land.
The horse was handed over into care of the owner who was on scene and a local vet who had been called to attend at start of incident.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews are currently making up their equipment before they return to their respective home stations.
"The incident will shortly be closed."
