Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called at 9.53pm on Friday (March 27) following a call from the occupant of first floor flat saying their porch was on fire.

Fire engines from Williton and Minehead were initially sent to the scene.

The crew from Williton arrived on scene at 10.01pm and confirmed at 10.06pm that the small fire, which started accidentally, had been extinguished using a hose reel jet.

The two crews from Minehead were returned on route, as their services were not required.

A spokesperson for the fire service, said: "After removing wooden cladding on the porch and checking for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera, they confirmed the incident was under control at 10.35pm.

"The fire was prevented from spreading and there were no casualties. Damage was confined to the porch only."
