AS play parks re-open across the county, youngsters in Chard have an extra reason to be excited.

Play equipment at Snowdon Park has been given a £68,000 facelift thanks to money secured through the planning consent (Section 106) for a nearby Redrow Homes development.

Children visiting this week, after play areas were given the go-ahead to re-open, have had their first chance to enjoy some of the newly-installed equipment, including a castle themed multi-unit climbing frame, a pyramid climbing net, basket swing, agility trail, tyre swing, spring see saw, toddler seats and more.

Councillor Jason Baker, South Somerset District Councillor (SSDC) for the Chard Holyrood ward, said: “The range of play equipment that has been installed at the site is fantastic and gives the opportunity for all children of any age and ability to enjoy playing in this safe play area.

"As district councillors, we are really proud of what has been achieved here.”

And Cllr Mike Best, portfolio holder for health and well-being at SSDC, added: “The district council wants to increase the quality and quantity of play opportunities in the district and this project will positively contribute towards that goal.

"The securing of Section 106 funding from the adjacent housing development was fundamental in the success in getting this new equipment installed and addresses the needs generated by those moving to the development.”

A consultation was held a couple of years ago at the Guildhall into the development of the play area and feedback from that consultation was used to enable to right type of equipment to be installed at Snowdon Park play area.
