A SOMERSET biker group raised more than £3,000 to support ambulance services in the county.

The Cruise4Crews fundraising team, who all work at Pattemores Transport in Crewkerne, delivered ‘pamper hampers’ to 10 paramedic stations across Somerset on Saturday (September 5).

Mike Matthews, ride coordinator, said: “After plenty of local business support and public donations we ended our fundraising on an amazing £3,210.

“We managed to fill 40 large boxes full of quick easy snack foods, drinks and goodies.

“We learnt that Somerset ambulance crews are some of the most humble and modest people you could ever meet.

“We heard the phrase ‘we are just doing our jobs’ or ‘we are overwhelmed by what Cruise4crews have done’ so many times.

“We would like to state to all ambulance out there you don’t just do a job, you go above and beyond.

“By doing this ride, we hope it shows how much the public and local businesses appreciate all you do for the county of Somerset and beyond.”

The ride on Saturday began at 8am at Pattemores Transport, with Ilminster as the first stop.

The Cruise4Crews team then travelled to Taunton, where they met Cathy Jacques from Taunton Ambulance and Steve Boucher, Somerset County Commander.

Bikers later met ambulance crews from Minehead, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Frome, Wincanton and Yeovil.

“I personally would like to thank Dave, Pete and our employer Pattemores Transport, without whose support this would not have been possible,” Mr Matthews added.

“Also special thanks to Julie Holman and Tors Bush from the ambulance service for sorting and arranging our visits to stations and staff availability.

“Most of all thank you to all the ambulance crews throughout Somerset for their continued tireless work, passion and commitment.”
