A SOMERSET MP is urging his constituents not to travel to a West Country city after an increase in Covid-19 cases.
Conservative Marcus Fysh, MP for Yeovil tweeted on Sunday (October 11) that due to a large increase in cases in Exeter he was advising people to avoid it or cease contact with people who have to travel there.
The tweet said: "Given large recent increases in #COVID cases in Exeter which look linked to the University, I hereby advise constituents not to travel to Exeter and those with unavoidable Exeter links to cease contact with others & vice versa for now. "
The Yeovil MP tweeted after a table with figures on new cases across the country was released, and Exeter placed seventh on the list.
He tweeted again later on Sunday and urged people to 'use common sense' and 'take good care but not live in fear.'
The tweet said: "South #Somerset with low COVID still not featuring in the SW top 10. "Exeter’s contrasting 6.5x rise in last week fully reported as shown by @RP131 is why Exeter links are best avoided until control is confirmed. Let’s use common sense and take good care, but not live in fear.
