HOW does raising a glass to your own grape harvest appeal, as you gaze out over the delightful setting of a productive vineyard?

No, this isn’t France or Italy, but a well-maintained award-winning vineyard on the Somerset Levels.

And it could be yours.

The vineyard, at Curload, near Stoke St Gregory, is on the market, along with pastureland and woodland, with a guide price of between £75,000 and £100,000.

It is being marketed by land specialists Greenslade Taylor Hunt and the closing date for tenders is noon on Tuesday, October 27.

In total, the land extends to 5.42 acres and in addition to the vineyard there is around three acres of amenity pasture and an acre of willow woodland.

Chard & Ilminster News:

The vineyard was established 30 years ago and in an average year produces approximately 1,500 bottles of good English wine.

There are approximately 450 vines – a mixture of Seyval (80%) and Solaris (20%) plus some original Muller Thergau. The grapes are all suited to the British climate and produce a pleasing dry white wine.

When Jill and Chris Mogford took the vineyard over around six years ago it was overgrown, but with tender care they have ensured it has flourished. In 2017 they won a bronze award for their still white wine.

Jill said: “It’s a peaceful little haven. We will be sorry to see it go.”

A lovely summerhouse on site provides the ideal spot to soak up the sun and enjoy the fruits of the grape harvest.

The land enjoys good access off Curload Road. Mains water is connected. As well as the timber summerhouse with WC there are various storage buildings on site.
