A CORONAVIRUS testing facility, that could welcome Somerset patients, is set to open tomorrow (December 4).

A mobile testing unit will be in the lower section of Station Road car park from Friday, for those who are showing symptoms of Covid-19.

It will be open seven days a week, but opening times are yet to be confirmed.

Mid Devon District Council (MDDC), who has been working closely with the national testing program to set up a site, is encouraging people to be tested as soon as they display symptoms of the virus.

A spokesperson for MDDC said: “You should be tested as soon as possible from when you first display symptoms of the virus and should book the test online.

“You will need to show ID at the testing centre and should arrive at the testing site with a scheduled appointment. On some occasions testing may be available for those showing symptoms who have not secured an appointment. If you are unable to access the internet you can book a test by calling 119.

“This is a drive through facility so you should arrive in a vehicle in order to be tested. Please do not leave your vehicle and take instructions upon arrival at the site.

“The whole site will be deep cleaned when the testing site has been closed, so that it can safely be returned to its normal use once government guidance allows.

“Remember, you can spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.”

The facility is being delivered by Serco, on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care.
