HOUSEHOLDERS across Somerset are being reminded to put their recycling and rubbish out a day later next week due to Monday (August 30) being a bank holiday.

The changes include Friday's pick up being shifted to Saturday (September 4).

A Somerset Waste Partnership spokesperson said residents should sort and segregate materials, ensure no recycling – especially food – is in the rubbish bin, and put all waste containers out by 6am.

Recycling sites remain on their usual timetables, with all 16 open 9am to 4pm on the bank holiday Saturday and Sunday weekend.

And 12 sites will be open 9am to - 6pm on Bank Holiday Monday -Bridgwater, Castle Cary, Chard, Cheddar, Crewkerne, Frome, Minehead, Street, Taunton, Wells, Williton and Yeovil.

All kerbside collections return to their usual schedules from Monday, September 6.

Meanwhile, residents have been reminded that the embers from bank holiday barbecues should be drenched to ensure they do not start a dangerous bin blaze if added to their rubbish.
