POLICE say the injuries sustained by the woman involved in the collision between the two vehicles are no longer considered to be life threatening.

A WOMAN is in a life threatening condition following a collision with a police car in Somerset.

Another man and the officer driving the police car sustained minor injuries in the incident yesterday evening (Sunday, January 2).

The police car was responding to an emergency call at around 8.35pm when the collision occurred on the A37 near Podimore.

The road remains closed between the A303 Podimore roundabout and Tout Lane while collision investigators inspect the scene,

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "The occupants of the other vehicle, a man and a woman, were subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance.

"The man’s injuries are not believed to be serious but the woman has a potentially life threatening head injury.

"The officer driving the police car sustained minor injuries which did not require hospital treatment.

"The A37 remains closed between the A303 Podimore roundabout and Tout Lane while the scene is examined by specialist collision investigators and the vehicles are recovered.

"The Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed and we’re in the process of making a formal referral to it due to the fact injuries were sustained in the incident."
