TODAY (Saturday, January 15) is National Pothole Day - so how bad is the problem in Somerset?
According to Somerset Travel, there were 19,282 potholes in the county in 2020.
That's well down on the 27,479 holes in Somerset's roads a decade earlier - but it's still a big issue.
Somerset Travel, which oversees highways and transport for the county council, puts the improvement down to "a direct results of our proactive approach to maintenance".
Nationally, more than £1billion was spent repairing potholes in our roads last year.
There were more than 800,000 of the holes identified in the UK - with a depth equivalent to 15 times the depth of the Grand Canyon.
The Road Surface Treatments Association claims it it would cost £9.79billion and take ten years to bring the local road network up to an acceptable condition.
