A BUSINESS recently converted to a bed and breakfast has reached the final of the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.

Bossington Hall in Exmoor converted to a bed and breakfast in January 2021 and have now reached the final for the Bed and Breakfast of the Year category.

In 2020, Bossington Hall was a whole house holiday let but the start of the Covid-19 pandemic made the business change and since then it operated as a bed and breakfast.

Director and owner Guy Dewdney said: “I am slightly overwhelmed, I have never won an award in my life. I didn’t think we were good enough.

“I don’t come from the hospitality industry so it’s been a massive change for me.

“In 2021 we made the decision to change it into a bed and breakfast, so there were a lot of changes into a short space of time.

“I thought we could be in the top ten just because of the location and the stunning views.

“I was very excited when the judge decided to send an inspector because we realised we were in the running.

The bed and breakfast is located along the South West Coast Path and Mr Dewdney said Bossington Hall is primarily a walking destination.

“We are primarily a walking destination, so we provide dog towels and there are binoculars in the bedrooms,” Mr Dewdney added.

“We are 10 minutes off the South West Coast Path, or Coleridge Way, we are rural but not remote, with Porlock village just a mile away.”

The house was built in 1911 by Allan Hughes, one of the last great independently minded nineteenth-century ship owners.
Full of interesting, quirky and cosy spaces, this country residence was designed to cater for a large family with their individual requirements.
