ANYONE applying planning permission to Somerset County Council from April 6 must use a new mandatory application form.

A Standard Planning Application Form is being introduced by the Government to ensure all planning applications across the country are the same.

Until now, local authorities have produced their own forms, often requesting different information from other councils.

A council spokeswoman said: "The new application form will make the process of applying for planning permission quicker and easier by requesting standard information for all applications across the country.

"Somerset County Council will accept the new 1APP form and their own application form until May 6 - after that, applications not submitted on the new 1APP form will not be accepted."

The county decides on planning applications for developments relating to waste and its own projects such as highways and schools.

Applications should be sent to the County Council for developments relating to waste and the County Council's own developments. Applications for all other types of development (except minerals) should be sent to the relevant District Council.
