A MINEHEAD author has welcomed forewords from four famous train lovers for his latest book on the Somerset railway.

Glastonbury's Michael Eavis, Prince Michael of Kent, singer Tony Christie and Gary Brooker, founder of rock band Procul Harum, have all written introductions for Alan Hammond's latest book, Heyday of the Somerset and Dorset Railway.

The book, co-written by Alan's wife Christine, is the sixth in the series on the train line and provides a wide collection of photographs and memories.

Alan endeavours to have the foreword for all his books written by famous railway fans, with Prince Micheal a keen engine driver, Tony Christie and Gary Brooker childhood train spotters and Micheal Eavis remembering his courtship days using the Somerset and Dorset line.

The book includes many accounts of the railway including firemen struggling to cross the Mendips, children enjoying rides on the footplate as well as some exclusive pictures of workers, travellers and scenery.

Books are available from bookshops or publisher Millstream Books for £20, or £23 including postage.
