SOMERSET County Council's Highway team is planning on carrying out essential resurfacing works on Preston Road in Yeovil between January 16 and 20, resulting in a full road closure.

The road is showing significant signs of normal wear and tear, however this must be fixed in order to avoid any further deterioration on the busy town centre route.

The section of road which is due to be resurfaced is between A37 Ilchester and the junction with Summerleaze Park and Westfield Road. It will be closed between 6.30am to 7pm on the aforementioned dates. There will be a diversion in place.

Acknowledging the work's proximity to four care homes, Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset County Council's executive lead member for transport and digital, has said: "Undertaking these works during the day will reduce disruption for local services.

"However, we do understand that there will still be some disruption and our team will do everything they can to minimise this."
