THE forgetful owner of a mobile phone thought they had lost if forever - until traffic officers came up with the goods.

The owner had unwittingly left their phone on the roof of their car before driving off.

It then fell off the vehicle on the M5 near Taunton.

After being alerted to the incident, traffic officers from National Highways South West managed to locate the device using the My Phone app.

It has now been returned to the relieved owner.

A spokesperson for National Highways South West said: "Traffic officers recently reconnected a lost phone with its owner.

"The phone fell off the roof of a car travelling on the M5 near Taunton.

"Using the find my phone app traffic officers located the device and safely returned to its owner."
