A SOMERSET beach has been ranked as Great Britain's best 'off the beaten track' location.

Berrow Beach topped the list after research by the Ordinance Survey for car manufacturer Jeep to celebrate Great Britain’s beautiful and unique islands.

The research compiled the results from a survey of 2,000 people.

The company hopes the map will encourage people to get outdoors and 'off the beaten track' by visiting one of the nation's 100 best outdoor locations.

The interactive map describes Berrow Beach as: "A huge six-mile stretch of sand, ideal for long water-side walks throughout the year.

"Cars can even be parked on the sand year-round."

Wimbleball Lake Activity Centre in Dulverton was the only other site in Somerset to make the list.

Also making it into the top ten, the site is described as a: "beautiful lake in Somerset which makes a great family day out. Try your hands at one of the many water sports".
