AN APPLICATION to approve reserved matters for plans to build on the site of Whitchurch’s former ambulance station has been submitted to Shropshire Council.
The proposal, for plots three to five, was submitted to the council’s planning portal on Tuesday, April 23, by applicant Matthew Hipkins, of Hipkins Homes Ltd from Malpas.
The original outline application was approved by Shropshire Council in November 2022 and was to knock down the ambulance station and replace it with five properties.

The ambulance site was closed in 2013 a previous applicant, William Cooper from Telford, had tried to turn the site into a delivery yard for the pneumatic industry, but instead applied for permission to build five dwellings.
Mr Hipkins has since taken over the application and a design and access statement issued at the time set out the plans.
It said: “The site is an open/clear site with an existing structure.
“It was most recently used as a storage depot. The existing access to the site is off Queensway at the north end of the site.
“The planning application seeks alter this access, and create five new access driveways off Sedgeford Road.
“The site is surrounded with hedges and fencing on the South and West sides and is open to the road on the north and east sides.”
Planning officer John Shaw, in approving the application despite public opposition, said: “It is considered that the proposed development of five dwellings on the site is acceptable in principle.
“Subject to conditions, there would be no undue impact on the character of the area, residential amenity, highway safety, local ecology, drainage, or archaeology deposits at the site.
“A condition would also be imposed so that the site is assessed for potential contamination before development commences.”

An application form included with the plans added: “‘Approval of reserved matters (Plots three to five) (access, appearance, landscaping, layout, and scale) pursuant to 22/02988/OUT for the building of five residential units following demolition of all on-site buildings.”
Consultation of the application will run until Tuesday, May 14 with a decision expected from Shropshire Council’s planning team to be given in mid-June.
