FLY TIPPERS are already causing a problem following new rules governing the disposal of waste imposed by West Somerset District Council.

From Monday, binmen have not been collecting 'side waste' left out beside black sacks.

Instead residents are being charged £10 for bulky items such as old television sets and ironing boards to be taken away.

Deputy council leader Colin Hill said he had been lobbying Somerset County Council for two years either to allow trade waste to be taken to council waste sites or to provide trade waste sites.

Household waste taken by residents to recycling sites can be left free of charge.

The council says the changes are necessary to help protect the environment by reducing the amount of waste which goes to landfill sites, and to meet Gov-ernment targets for recycling.
