I WRITE regarding The Skipper's comments about attempts to de-select Tory parliamentary candidate Ashley Crossley

I have no problem with your reporting of the campaign. However, I found the views expressed in The Skipper totally unfair and extremely offensive. The idea that anyone should resign because of their sexuality is absurd.

Legislation came into force in December to protect lesbians, gay men, and bisexual people from unfair treatment in employment, and rightly so.

Whether this man is open about his sexuality or not, it should have no effect on his ability to do his job. He should not have had to declare his sexuality at any point. He should not be made to feel uncomfortable in his work, asked to resign, or treated unfairly in any way. Your paper, however, appears to condone this type of treatment.

I feel you owe Ashley Crossley an apology.
