GRAMPOUND Road completed their Jolly's Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League season last weekend with home games against Falmouth and Newquay, writes Michael Weeks.

Falmouth had a 100 run win on Saturday, but the "Road" bounced back to end the season on a high with a 144 run win over last year's champions Newquay on Sunday. It ensured a fourth spot finish in the league, which is one place higher than last year.

Also there were the notable victories in the Clive Rosevear Insurance Hawkey and Edwards Cup Finals.

On Saturday, Falmouth, after electing to bat, lost skipper Sean Hooper for 3, but reached 107 before losing their second wicket with Steve Williams making 62 and Adrian Noott 56. The middle order was wrecked by Martin Roberts who took 5-62. Mark Burley and David Neville saw the total to 197-9.

"Road" lost openers Martin Pearce and Pete Davey without scoring. Chris Hunkin made 32 and Roberts 18 but when they were both dismissed at 57 the innings fell away with Grampound all out for 97.

It was better news on Sunday when Newquay were defeated by 144 runs to complete a miserable weekend for the visitors. Having only made 50 the previous day at Truro they were shot out for 80 in just 25 overs after being set 225 to win. Martin Roberts was their destroyer taking 6-42 from 13 overs.

In the Grampound Road innings Martin Pearce had hit seven fours, off 22 balls, in making 30 out of 34 for the first wicket, but the feature of the innings was a third wicket stand of 135 made over 37 overs between Chris Hunkin and Kriss Harris. Hunkin dominated the partnership to make 83 off 115 balls hitting two sixes and eight fours. Harris fell one short of his50 in a two-hour stay at the crease. Ben Rapson, in an inspired spell, took 6-15 from 7 overs at the end of the innings.
