TRURO CITY 2 v TAVISTOCK 0

JUST a few months ago Truro City were fighting to avoid re-election, now a few months later they sit proudly in second place in the Carlsberg SWL.

The transformation has taken place with virtually the same squad of players and this time round, instead of searching for their first win, they already have four victories from five games under their belt.

The kick-off was delayed because heavy traffic on Goss Moor took its annual tool and on this occasion prevented Tavistock from reaching Treyew Road in time for a 3 pm kick-off.

Tavistock might have felt the heat as they travelled down and became stuck in the traffic and City ensured that they wanted to maintain that effect by begin at a pace that would almost make their visitors feel uncomfortable.

With City's confidence high, they soon set about putting Tavistock under pressure and they almost took the lead as early as the first minute when the reliable Andy Meeds thwarted Mark Pope.

City created several worthwhile chances, but squandered them all and they almost paid the penalty when Tavistock missed a great chance of taking the lead when Martin Biles blasted wide of the goal with only Andy Butcher to beat.

City continued the second half where they left off the first 45 minutes by creating chances but not looking convincing in front of goal and also finding that with Meeds in top form it was going to take something special to get past him.

The breakthrough came after several substitutions and in the 69th minute they paid off. A quick free kick by Steven Hawk found Paul Wolstencroft on the flank and he crossed into the box where Ben Goldring had time and space to beat Meeds at the far post.

Four minutes later City put the game out of the reach of the Lambs when they scored a second goal. Goalkeeper Butcher launched a long kick into the heart of the visiting defence and Richard Young outpaced the defence and ran on to it and thumped his shot past Meeds to virtually wrap up the game.

On Saturday City will face a stiff test of their credentials with an away trip to Plymouth Parkway.
