THE Royal Cornwall Hospital was awash with smiles last week as the winning entries of the Children's Art Competition received their prizes.
Started three years ago, the contest was designed to promote the relationship between Devon and Cornwall police and the hospital, which has two resident officers stationed there to protect staff and patients.
PC Malcolm Dunstan and PC Tony Bilsland travelled throughout Cornwall visiting shops and businesses collecting donations towards prizes for the competition winners.
"Children's memories of hospital aren't always the best, so the presentation day makes a real difference," said Mr Dunstan. "The look on the children's faces makes it all worthwhile."
Judging the artwork was Relubbus artist, Stephen Cummins, non-executive director of the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Vanessa Moore and Supt John Tucker of Truro police. All were "impressed" by the standard of work produced.
Prizes for the four different age groups varied from vouchers for entrance into Newquay Zoo, to a painting framed by the Saffron Gallery in St Agnes.
The success of this year's event means the competition will take place again next year.
