ILLOGAN 4 NEWQUAY 0

ILLOGAN extended their unbeaten start to the season in the Jolly's Combination League to five matches with a comfortable 4-0 win against Newquay.

For the opening ten minutes there was little to choose between the sides with Newquay posing their fair share of problems, but once Illogan took the lead in the 17th minute there was only going to be one winner.

Gareth Pitt collected the ball from Jamie Congdon and then crossed into the box for Sam Ridge to come in behind a defender to tuck the ball into the net.

Five minutes later Illogan added a second goal from a quick corner when Ryan Treloar caught the visiting defence napping to give the 'keeper no chance with his header.

Illogan created several other chances and after 33 minutes they notched a third goal when Treloar picked up the ball and slipped inside a defender before scoring with a shot at the near post.

The Peppermints' only chance of the half came two minutes later when Luke Worrall went past a defender but saw his shot rebound off a post.

Illogan should have had a fourth goal before the break when Treloar went round the 'keeper, but put his shot into the sidenetting with the goal beckoning.

Illogan continued to pepper the Newquay goal at the start of the second half with Ridge striking a post from Simon Carter's cross.

Matt Callaway thumped in two good shots which the 'keeper saved and, indeed, it was only good goalkeeping and indifferent finishing that kept the score to reasonable proportions.

Pitt headed Illogan's fourth goal from Carter's cross in the 75th minute and five minutes later Treloar was unlucky when his shot rebounded off the bar and then saw another effort skim the post as the game ended in one-way traffic towards the visitors' goal.

On Saturday Illogan are away to RNAS Culdrose.
