Buyers at a new homes development at Cubert, near Newquay, have celebrated its completion with a street party and a special commemorative cake.

Bridie Holmyard, who with her husband Jack was one of the first to move in at Poltair Homes' Penvearn View site, decided to put her cooking talents to good use for the happy occasion.

So she spent a week creating a giant cake that depicted the site layout, complete with all its 43 homes reproduced in miniature in icing.

Residents gathered beside the area currently being prepared for children's play purposes. As well as enjoying their share of the celebration cake, they also toasted the success of the project with a case of Bob and Annie Lindo's Cornish Champagne, supplied by Poltair Homes.

"I was in the hotel business for many years and have made numerous wedding cakes," said Mrs Holmyard, "so I thought it would be a good idea to make the street party cake. We are all so happy with our homes here and the wonderful location that we just wanted to celebrate."

Penvearn View has been created on the site of the former Penvearn Holiday Park. Many of the new homes have spectacular views across the sand dunes adjacent to Perranporth's beaches and beyond to Holywell Bay.
