The number of Devon county councillors could rise next year to improve local democratic representation for the public.
The Electoral Commission has given the go-ahead for the recommendations published in a review in August 2000.
Growth in population means Devon county councillors in some areas are at present representing up to 17,000 people. As a result, the Commission agreed the number of county councillors should increase from 54 to 62.
