Yeovil Town midfield wizard Gavin Williams -- the player fans like to dub Super Gav -- returned to playing duties at the weekend and played a blinder. And Yeovil boss Gary Johnson is delighted to have him back in action (writes Steven Sowden).

And Williams could not have written the script any better as it was he who scored the decisive penalty in the 1-0 victory over Swansea City -- a team he loves to hate being a self-confessed Cardiff supporter-- at Huish Park on Saturday. Williams had returned in fantastic style.

And Johnson said: "We know certain things motivate players and we've all got different ways of motivating ourselves to win football matches.

"The match with Swansea was a big game for someone like Gav who has been chomping at the bit for two weeks now."

Williams had been sidelined with a badly broken finger he sustained in the 1-1 draw with Darlington at Huish Park back on August 10.

He was not due to return to action for another two weeks, but Johnson had admitted that it was always difficult to keep the effervescent figure of Williams occupied and the Swansea game was too big a carrot for him to sit back and watch.

But even then the club still had to get the consent of the doctor to allow Williams to play.

"The doctor was involved in the decision to play Gav," said Johnson. "It takes six weeks for the bone to heal properly, but we had it put in a cast.

"The worst that could have happened was that he broke it again and that he would be out for another six weeks."

Johnson said that playing Williams was a gamble, but by the end of this week the midfielder should be one step closer to the injury being completely healed.

Yeovil, currently lying nicely in fourth spot in the table, travel to West Country rivals Cheltenham Town on Saturday for another big match.Yeovil suffered a bad day at Whaddon Road last year when they lost disappointingly 3-1.

Although Huish Park is becoming something of a fortress already this season having picked up ten points out of a possible 12, Yeovil's away form has not been so impressive.
