WENDRON United Football Club are on the verge of submitting final detailed plans to the Football Foundation for an exciting £700,000 development incorporating new changing facilities and store rooms at their Underlane ground.

The scheme has been over two years in the making, but now, after receiving backing from the Cornwall County FA, Kerrier and Wendron councils, the club is taking the final step in a bid to secure facilities to accommodate the number of teams within the club.

"Wendron FC is the premier provider of youth soccer in the large rural parish of Wendron," said project manager Mr Alan Watson. "The core objective of the club is to achieve consistent long-term success on the field through player development at every level from under 7 to adult, including ladies and veterans,.

"Due to the overwhelming success of the youth and adult sections and the increasing demands of football there is now a concern in the area of changing facilities. As a result the club is seeking to apply for funding from the Football Foundation in order to construct a purpose built state-of-the-art changing room facility appropriate to the needs of the club."

"The new facility will be built between the two main pitches and will include four large changing rooms, officials' rooms and a first aid room together with a garage for storage of equipment. Use will be made of environmentally friendly energies such as solar power and ground source heat pumps to power under floor heating and hot water for showers. Sun catcher light tubes will provide daylight and ventilation for changing rooms."

It is hoped to have an answer by the end of the year and if approved it is planned to begin building in spring of 2005.
