THE final scoreline may show a comfortable win, but this was an extremely hard fought victory for Minehead more down to guts and determination than high skill.

Minehead have played North Petherton many times over the years, and know what to expect. A strong determined pack of aggressive forwards, totally committed to making life difficult for whoever they play.

A additional problem for Minehead was losing star centre Simon Avison to a hamstring injury after only five minutes, to be replaced by Nigel Adams.

One area where Minehead did impress in was their commitment to the tackle, and when the visitors were in possession they were met by a barrage of big hits.

A gritty determined performance from Minehead but a lot of hard work is still required if they are to improve on last years league position. Debutant Rob Branfield was named as man of the match for his effort and workrate.
