THE growing Portuguese community living in and around Chard is seeking to share some of the delights of their home country with the people of Somerset.
In a gesture characteristic of Iberian hospitality they are organising a series of social events centred around Portuguese music, food and drink to be held in Chard and surrounding villages.
The programme of events is the idea of Maria Daci, the newly appointed Portuguese Link Worker.
Maria said: "Our people want to be more integrated within their new community and to create greater understanding.
To help with this we've set up a Portuguese Cultural Events Association (PCEA) with the help of a £300 grant from the Somerset Community chest.
