A 26-year-old man from Taunton has been charged with murder.
Paul Dewar, of no fixed abode, was one of four people charged with the murder of 68-year-old Brian Kitching in Portsmouth.
Mr Kitching, 68, suffered serious head injuries when he was attacked in the Rock Gardens at Southsea Park on September 6, 2005.
He was treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital, before being transferred to a nursing home, where he died on March 8 this year.
Mr Dewar, along with two females and another man - all from the Portsmouth area - was arrested at the time of the incident and were originally charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
All four attended Fareham Police Station yesterday (Wednesday, July 26) where they were charged with murder.
The two females appeared at Portsmouth City Magistrates yesterday and were bailed to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Monday, July 31.
The two men were due to appear before magistrates at Portsmouth today (Thursday, July 27).
