FORTY-SEVEN personnel from 815 Naval Air Squadron, based at RNAS Yeovilton, have taken part in a charity beard growing competition to raise money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.

The event was held in conjunction with the national Movember competition which sees frantic beard and moustache growing activity for the month of November.

Organised by the Squadron Regulator, CPO Nigel Bickley, all competitors had to pay an entry fee of £5 and agree to abide to a number of rules and regulations and if any rules were broken then fines of between £5 and £10 were paid into the fund.

CPO Bickley said: “Once all the fines were collected the monies amounted to just over £350 for this very worthy charity.”

Liz Ridegway, director of fundraising and marketing at the RNRMC, and Commodore Paul Chivers, Commanding Officer of RNAS Yeovilton, kindly agreed to judge and present the prizes.

The award for best beard went to AET Rikky Jones who received a vintage bottle of port and the booby prize went to AET Taylor Smetana who was undeterred from entering next year after receiving his prize of Pink Lambrini, some wax strips and a copy of the Woman’s Own magazine.
