Adventurer Bear Grylls is to receive his OBE from the Queen at a royal investiture at Buckingham Palace later on Thursday.

The television star and Chief Scout was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June for his services to young people, the media and charity.

Grylls, whose real name is Edward, said at the time the honour was for “every one of those incredible Scout volunteers”.

Actor Simon Beale, who is one of the most acclaimed stars of British theatre, will be knighted for his services to drama, as will Simon Woolley, the founder of operation Black Vote, for services to race equality.

British actress Cush Jumbo, who is the star of hit US dramas The Good Wife and The Good Fight, is to receive an OBE for her services to drama.

Diver Christopher Jewell is to also receive the Queen’s Gallantry Medal for his role in saving a youth football team which was trapped inside a flooded cave in Thailand in 2018.
