Yeovil 1, Bournemouth 1

YEOVIL Town manager Gary Johnson described Bournemouth’s equalising goal as a ‘freak’ as the sides drew 1-1 at Huish Park on Saturday.

Kieffer Moore fired Yeovil into a 25th minute lead, but Bournemouth levelled in bizarre fashion as Byron Webster’s clearance ricocheted off Ryan Fraser and looped over Marek Stech’s head into the corner – but Johnson was pleased with the Glovers’ overall display.

He said: “I’m so pleased with performance and so pleased that we entertained.

“We matched Bournemouth in every department, the goal was just a freak. We played good football and defended well against a team that were looking to win to keep their play-off hopes alive - their hopes are still alive, but so are ours.”

"I can at least go home happy that my team looked like a Championship team today, we deserved more than a draw.”

Yeovil created most of the early chances as Joe Edwards and Kieffer Moore were both unsuccessful with their attempts - whilst at the other end, Matt Ritchie skied over from 12 yards for the visitors.

It took 25 minutes for Yeovil to open the scoring as Kieffer Moore rifled into the top corner from the edge of the area, a goal worthy of winning a match.

Bournemouth began to come into the game after that, with 20-goal striker Lewis Grabban wasting two huge chances for The Cherries to draw level.

Fraser’s freak strike levelled the scores on the hour mark, but the Glovers fought back and James Hayter had a shot blocked off the line, while Tom Lawrence curled just wide.

Minutes later, Kieffer Moore’s cross-shot was inches away from Hayter and the far corner, but neither side was able to find a winner as the game drew to a close.
