CHARD Road Runners Paul Masters and Addie Douglass set off on Saturday for the Cream Tea Caper, a race with a novel touch.

Starting at 9am, this off-road trail event runs for eight hours and runners can choose how many of the 3.3 mile laps they want to undertake before heading to the finish tent to claim their Cream Tea and Medal.

Heading out from The Double Locks Inn in Exeter, Paul Masters was running as a solo runner and Addie had teamed up with fellow runner Claire Justice in the relay race, allowing only one runner of the relay team to be on course at any time.

Setting off at a steady pace, Masters was out to cover eight laps of this near flat course.

He was going well up to lap six when an injury slowed his pace dramatically and crossing the line at near Marathon distance of 27.3 miles in a time of 4h 32m 15s.

With Justice starting the race soon, Douglass was trying out her pace around the course having had little opportunity for training over the last few months.

With the race progressing, Addie and Claire both complete the four laps required for a Half Marathon distance in a time of 4h 58m.
