The cooler weather enticed only 12 teams to enter the three-man Irish waltz competition at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club on Monday.

The resulting atmospheric conditions restricted the scoring, with only three teams scoring better than par.

Richard Holmes led his team to victory with a creditable score of 75 points, beating his nearest rivals by two points.

There was a tie for second place, with David Taylor ousting Neil Cochran’s trio by virtue of a better back nine.

Result
1. Richard Holmes; Ken Trott & Jim McDonald - 75 points
2. David Taylor; Phil Dewar & Jerry Blackburn - 73 points
3. Neil Cochran; Richard Hall & George Willerton - 73 points

In wet and cold conditions on Wednesday, 25 pairs entered the Canadian Greensomes competition.

Once again, the conditions proved tricky for the golfers, with only the first two placings managing sub-par rounds.

The combination of Ian Housham and John Evans proved too strong for the other teams, managing to beat the early starters by 0.87 of a shot.

Result
1. Ian Housham & John Evans - 68.13
2. Brian Marsh & John McOmish - 69.00
3. Bryan Frost & Dave Mugridge - 70.50

The seniors finished their week on Friday with a 4ball better ball event, once again battling with the elements.

A small field of 18 members formed nine pairs, and unsurprisingly no side managed a sub-par round.

In a close finish, the early starters – having the best of conditions – managed to claim the first two places, with only two points separating the first three positions.

Result
1. Phil Dewar & Martyn Putland - 36 points
2. David Taylor & Gordon Brent - 35 points
3. Mark Cording & Mike Hone - 34 points

Subsequent to events on Friday, the senior section held its annual dinner in the evening.

Captain Peter Spencer-Farr praised the section for their support during his year, and announced the new senior captain for next year, James Siabi.

He then proceeded to hand over a cheque to the amount of £7,500, which had been raised during the year for his charity, Guide Dogs for the Blind.
