TAUNTON Town head of football Rob Dray will use tonight's Southern League Challenge Cup game at home to Truro City (ko 7.45pm) to take a look at several options for his squad going forward.

Bridgwater & Taunton College students Nathan Byrne, Noah Coppin, Luke Manley and Callum Watts are all set to feature, as well as a couple of trialists and a returning midfielder.

Dray told the County Gazette: "Every game is important for us, but it's a good opportunity to rest players who have niggly injuries and look at other players.

"Noah [Coppin] and Callum [Watts] will both start."

Byrne and Manley are also expected to be in the squad, although Byrne played 90 minutes for Bridgwater Town in the Premier Cup last (Tuesday) night, and Manley is coming back from an injury.

Dray said that one of the trialists is a centre-back from National League South side Hungerford Town, and the other an 18-year-old forward from Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion.

The latter is Owen Windsor, who has been named in Taunton's squad on the Southern League website.

Also appearing in that squad list is Joe Charles, a 22-year-old midfielder who was signed by Taunton back in 2017, following his release by Exeter City.

He's been set back by two serious knee injuries, but has played 15 times for Western League side Bridport this season.

"Joe contacted me," said Dray.

"He's got great pedigree and is blindingly quick.

"So we've signed him on and we'll have a look at him tonight."

Following tonight's match, the Peacocks are set for a bit of a break, with no game on Saturday due to Hartley Wintney (Taunton's originally scheduled opponents) being in FA Trophy action.

Dray added: "We tried very, very hard to get [an alternative] game on.

"We wanted to play but couldn't - it's frustrating."

Looking ahead to next week, Taunton have now confirmed that they will host Southern League Division 1 side Bideford in a friendly match on Tuesday (November 26, ko 7.45pm).

The Peacocks are still to host Bath City in the Somerset Premier Cup second round, but with Bath having an FA Trophy tie on Saturday, and the possibility of a midweek replay following on from that, they will not be making the trip to Taunton next week.
