NEW Ilminster Town manager Chris Hill has snapped up three new signings ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Olly Down has played for various teams across Somerset, and made a couple of cup appearances for Southern League side Taunton Town.

Hill said “Olly is a player I’ve watched develop from Under-14 level all the way up into men’s football.

“He is an explosive winger, with great pace and a few tricks up his sleeve, and he is developing into a fantastic young player.”

Down is joined by Ben Evett, who has been a prolific goalscorer for the last few seasons in the Taunton Saturday League with FC Castlemoat, with more than 100 goals over the two seasons.

“Ben is a player I have tracked for a few seasons now,” Hill said.

“He is an exciting talent, who has plenty of ability and I can’t wait for him to show what he can do in front of goal.”

The third new signing is Morley Gold, the 16-year-old son of Blues legend Paul Gold.

Club chairman Haines said: “This lad comes from a rich footballing heritage with his dad being one of the club’s all-time leading scorers.

“He is hot property in local football and I’m delighted to get him signed up!”

Ilminster’s training sessions - which begin tonight (July 7) - are being run in accordance with the latest FA guidance, and therefore all existing and potential players should let the club know that they intend to attend training, to ensure adequate arrangements are made.

These training sessions will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays going forward, and are open to all four men’s teams.
