Counties 2 Tribute Somerset: Taunton Warriors 36-7 Minehead Barbarians

TAUNTON Warriors were too good for Minehead Barbarians at the weekend as the two sides faced off in a Counties Two Somerset South derby match.

Minehead did put up a fight in the match, but ultimately came undone, losing 36-7 away from home.

Taunton were on top early in the match, three minutes in, in fact. From there they were able to keep the foot down and restrict Minehead.

The home side went on to score six tries to Minehead's one on a very hot afternoon.

Taunton led 15-0 at the interval and stretched their lead to 22-0, however unwilling to lie down, Minehead pulled one back.

Ben Jones crossed for a really solid try on his first team debut and Jacob Gower kicked the conversion.

Minehead head coach Mick Orton told West Somerset Free Press: "We can take a lot of positives from this match. We never gave up throughout the game."

"Huge thanks to all of our travelling supporters who came along today."

Man of the Match was awarded to Jacob Gower playing at number 10.

In other news at Minehead Barbarians, the club is now offering weekly sessions for girls to play rugby.

The club said: "After last week’s super exciting session, we are so pleased to be able to offer weekly training sessions rather than fortnightly thanks to our fab coaches.

"So come on girls - Come on up, bring a friend or 2 - We promise you’ll have a great time!"
