YEOVIL College is delighted to announce that three of its rugby academy stars have been selected to represent England in a series of international matches.

The students - Sam Bennett, of Queen Camel, Lloyd Morgan, of Yeovil, and Jake Woolmore, of East Stoke - were chosen for the prestigious honour following a series of regional games and trials, culminating in the England Trial Weekend recently held in Bristol.

All three students play for Ivel Barbarians Rugby Club as well as Yeovil College.

The students all play in front row positions in the current college rugby squad.

Sam Bennett, 19, a former student of Ansford School, plays tight head prop, while Lloyd Morgan, 18, previously of Stanchester School, converted to hooker this year and has made a very successful transition from the back row.

Also a former Stanchester School pupil, Jake Woolmore, 19, is a loose head prop. Jake only began playing rugby when he started at Yeovil College.

Yeovil College’s rugby academy has consistently developed star national and international players in recent years, including male and female students who have gone on to represent England and Great Britain.

It helps to develop students’ technical skills and tactical understanding alongside physical conditioning, creating excellent and well-rounded players who can take pride of place in any team.

Sam, Lloyd and Jake will continue working with their academy coaches on all aspects of their game to ensure that they are in peak condition for the challenges ahead.

Rugby academy coaches Andrew Roda and George Cooper are very proud of the students’ achievements.

They said: “This is not only a massive honour for the boys and Yeovil College, but also for Ivel Barbarians and South Somerset Rugby as a whole.

“Sam, Lloyd and Jake are the epitome of hard work and sportsmanship and they deserve the great honour of playing for their country. We wish them every success this year and the future and will be supporting them all the way!”

Sam, Lloyd and Jake are looking forward to home internationals against Scotland Universities and Welsh Colleges.

Beforehand they will be playing warm up games against the Irish Exiles and Boys Club of Wales.

England Colleges are also hoping to go on an international tour to either Portugal or the USA, giving the students the opportunity to play their Under 20s counterparts in these countries.

In the meantime, the boys will be fundraising as they have to support their own campaign.
