THE Men's Senior British Team & Individual Sabre Championships at RAF Cosford saw Taunton's only fighter, Nat Lewis, finish an impressive 42nd from the top class entry of 121.
The 15-year-old narrowly went out to Northern Ireland's Steve Fenwick by a slender two points at 13-15, after making the eventual eighth place finisher work hard in the fight for the last 32.
On Sunday, Lewis, invited to join the GB Nos 1 and 2 for Team Hunt Roeder, more than justified their faith, losing just three of his 12 matches.
On the way, he gained a terrific nine hits over the GB Under-20 No 2 Tony Crutchet, and three on the Under-17 World Champion Alex O'Connell, in their quarter-final battle with Brent-wood A', the eventual champions.
The scoreline of 41-45 provided the best contest of the day, as Brentwood won the final 45-27 against Truro.
