CRAIG Overton says he "knows what he needs to do" to win a regular Test spot with England, after claiming five wickets on the second day of the Bob Willis Trophy match between Somerset and Glamorgan at Taunton.
The 26-year-old claimed 5-38 in 17 overs, as Glamorgan - chasing Somerset's first innings total of 296 all out - were dismissed for 131.
Josh Davey (2-34 off 12) also performed well in a devastating morning session which saw the visitors plummet from 15-0 to 38-6.
Graham Wagg (28) and Ruaidhri Smith (23) ensured that Glamorgan did at least avoid the follow-on.
Somerset lost Tom Lammonby (8) and Eddie Byrom (27) to slip to 38-2 at the start of their second innings, but Tom Abell (44*) and James Hildreth (45*) took them to 131-2 by the close.
Afterwards, Overton said: "The England selectors have told me to try and add a yard of pace to my bowling without letting it affect my accuracy, and that is what I have been working on.
"The ball came out well today and I am pleased with the way things are going. I know what I have to do to get the regular Test Match place I want.
"Ideally, we want to bat until tea tomorrow and if we can't get Glamorgan all out in four sessions, we won't have bowled well because there is enough pace in the pitch for the nicks to be carrying to the keeper and slips."
