SOMERSET cricketer Lewis Gregory claimed one wicket and took a stunning catch to help his Brisbane Heat side win a rain-affected match against Melbourne Stars and boost their Big Bash League play-off hopes.

The match was reduced to 10 overs a side, with 48 from Heat skipper Chris Lynn helping them to 115-3, of which Gregory made 9* off three balls (with one six).

The Stars made it to 42 before losing their first wicket, and the second man to go was Nicholas Pooran (19), snared by Gregory, who did brilliantly to hold on to the catch.

Gregory then accounted for the dangerous Marcus Stoinis (34), having him caught behind by wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson.

Nick Larkin made 35* for the Stars, but they finished on 111-5 - giving the Heat victory by 17 runs (DLS method).

Gregory's catch wasn't the only impressive piece of fielding in the match, with Max Bryant preventing a six in acrobatic fashion.

The Heat now have four wins and four defeats, and they are up to fifth place in the standings (with the top five making the play-offs) - one point off fourth-placed Adelaide Strikers and one point ahead of Melbourne Stars in sixth.

The next fixture for the Brisbane team sees them take on second-placed Sydney Sixers on Sunday (December 10, 8.15am UK time).
